Reliability of Open Public Electric Vehicle Direct Current Fast Chargers

In order to achieve a rapid transition electric vehicle driving, highly reliable and easy use charging infrastructure is critical building confidence as consumers shift from using familiar gas vehicles unfamiliar (EV). This study evaluated the functionality of system for 657 EVSE (electric service equipment) CCS connectors (combined system) on all 181 open, public DCFC (direct current fast chargers) stations in Greater Bay Area. An was functional if it charged an EV 2 minutes or at time station evaluated. Overall, 72.5% EVSEs were functional. The cable too short reach inlet 4.9% EVSEs.
